B Sc. DEGREE PROGRAMME IN PHYSICS

  1. 1.INTRODUCTION

Physics is a branch of Science that is concerned with the most fundamental and general aspects of nature as revealed in all forms of matter and energy. Motion, Heat, Waves, Electricity, Magnetism, Liquids, Gases, Atoms, Nuclei, Elementary particles, Optics, etc. are studied with both experimental and theoretical tools. Usually, experimental investigations and results point the way to possible new theories. Physics aims at the understanding of all natural phenomena-Physical, Chemical or Biological- in terms of a few fundamental concept and relationships. Consequently, the understanding of Physics is indispensable for all work in the natural Sciences and Engineering. The understanding of the modern world and its cultural and technological evolution is therefore considerably enhanced in the so-called “Professional” courses; a first degree in Physics is a worthy pre-requisite for some of these courses. The options are numerous, among them are:

  • ØElectronics and Instrumentation,
  • ØMedical (Health) Physics or Radiology
  • ØMeteorology and Aviation
  • ØMetallurgy and Mineralogy
  • ØNuclear Energy and Power
  • ØComputers Software and Hardware Engineering
  • ØMaterials Science and Engineering
  • ØAstronomy and Aeronomy
  • ØAtmospheric Physics
  • ØSpace Physics
  • ØLand and Survey Physics
  • ØGeophysics
  • ØOptometry
  • ØAstrophysics
  • ØCondensed Matter Physics
